2010 CONVENTION DATES & HOST HOTEL

Mark your calendar for the 2010 HOST SASKATCHEWAN CONVENTION & TRADE SHOW to be held in Saskatoon, March 14 & 15, 2010.  The Hilton Garden Inn is our host hotel, which is right across the street from TCU Place where the Trade Show and other functions will be held.  More information to follow.

RECENT SCAM IN SASKATCHEWAN!

This happened in one of our hotels in Saskatchewan.  A person called the front desk and stated he was from our hotel chain's IT department.  He was very demanding and would not let the clerk off the phone.  He demanded the guest's credit card numbers that were staying there that night.  The clerk gave out the numbers.  The RCMP were called and they contacted other hotels in the area.  The hotel contacted guests whose information was compromised.

BILL S-226 - CALL TO ACTION FOR ALL VLT OPERATORS IN SASKATCHEWAN

The SHHA and the Hotel Association of Canada are deeply concerned about BillS-226, which is making its way through the Federal Senate.  If passed, the Bill would amend the Criminal Code to make it illegal for provincial governments to operate videio lottery terminals (VLTs) in bars, taverns and restaurants.  They would only be allowed in race tracks, casinos and betting  theatres.  This Bill would have a cripplying affect on all VLT operators in Saskatchewan and other provinces.

WESTERN HOSPITALITY INSURANCE PROGRAM (WHIP)

The New Western Hospitality Insurance Program is now in effect, as of December 1, 2008.  The new program includes such advantages as immediate premium savings of 12%, eligibility for year-end rebates and comprehensive coverage.  Negotiations have been successful to have the enrolment period remain open to accommodate new or existing members of SHHA that have not yet joined this program.

HOTEL SCAM WARNING!
Recently a hotel in rural Saskatchewan was contacted by a buyer from England.  This proposed buyer offered to send a deposit of $60,000 for this property, but the catch was that the hotelier had to pay $25,000 to the inspecting agent for his trip to the location before the final payment can be made.  Do not, under any circumstances, send money to an unknown person or person posing as an agent!
